AHHHH, finally!!! Today is the last day that Brooklyn will be 2! This is a huge milestone for me with her. She is so dang cute and smart, but I am not sad to see her get into the 3's.
A few weeks ago Brooklyn decided to "run" again when we were at Walmart. She takes pride in the fact that she runs from me whenever we go somewhere. I got so used to it that I don't fret at first, because we can usually find her (plus Lyndee is usually with me and is a great helper). Well, this time Lyndee wasn't with us and I was getting the van's oil changed so we had some time to kill. I was also buying stuff for Katelyn's birthday party and so Katelyn and I were looking at some stuff and I turned around and Brooklyn was gone. Casually we started looking down all the isles since we were by the toys I thought that she would stay around there. Well, after passing all the isles 4 times and not finding her, we went to the electronics, and she was not there. My heart started pounding a little at this point, and then I noticed that straight down the isle was the exit. We went there next and talked to the greeter at the door and told him not to let any little girls (in pj's) leave the store. We were directed to customer service and they got many employees searching for us and all started talking on their radios. I went straight back into the clothing department and someone had just found her just in time. (Walmart's new policy is that they have to call the police and fill out a report if a code Adam is called) I don't want the police called, that would be too much. Luckily, this time Brooklyn was scared and had been crying when she couldn't find us. She was forced to stay in the cart the rest of the time and she now knows that she needs to stay with mom. Although she got lost at Chuck-e-cheese last night and was crying and kept saying that she needed to stay by mom.
This same thing happened to Katelyn right before she turned 3. She had gotten lost (run and hid) in JCPenny and it scared her pretty bad, after that she has been easy to take shopping. I hope that Brooklyn will learn to stay by me from now on!!!

I was just going to send Brookie a happy birthday email since I didn't get a card in the mail.:)
I guess you're just a nicer mom...I just keep Elisa in the cart all the time--no chances for her, after one time last summer she didn't get a second chance not to run
You know, I used to make fun of those kid "leashes" until I saw my friend use one on her prone-to-running-away little girl (who just turned 2, actually). Darned if those things don't work. Hopefully she'll learn before you have to resort to that! :)
Keeping Brooky in the cart is next to impossible. She will climb out and has almost fallen on her head. I don't shop much with her because I've tried everything but the leash. I did the leash on other kids, but it's a pain. We usually just don't go anywhere because it does get so bad sometimes.
