Traveling in China can be a little scary at first, but then once you realize that the driving is just organized chaos, then it is totally fine. There are always close calls and I kept wondering why there wasn't any accidents. All the drivers honk a lot. Pedestrians cross where they want because drivers don't stop for them at cross walks anyway. Vehicles always have the right away. There are just mass chaos in intersections. It is worse than New York City driving if you've ever experienced it. Words or pictures can't describe it. Drivers will just turn and move where they want to go and honk to let the car by them know they are moving into their lane. In the states, there would be massive road rage if this was the normal driving.
When Lynar's company didn't arrange a driver for us, we usually took a taxi. Taxi's are very cheap and easy to take (like $1-$2 to go anywhere). Lots of them all over. We would just give the driver an address.
It was fun to see all the motorcycles filled with 3-5 people on each motorcycle. Motorcycles were packed, especially in the morning when kids were going to school. I can't imagine loading my kids on the motorcycle to take Lyndee to school.

My experience in China... The biggest one wins! If you are pedestrian watch out. If you are a big huge bus you own the road.
Oy. That would pretty much make me crazy. I can't even stand the way people drive here.
