"May Market"

Lyndee had a big project called "May Market" which was actually held on June 4th, to finish off her 3rd grade year.
"May Market is an economics unit the 3rd graders do at her school.  The 2nd and 3rd graders start earning "Tucker bucks" for doing good in school sometime in April.  The 3rd graders make and sell 100 items of their choice.  They are in charge of coming up with the idea, making 2 posters, making the items, then selling the items.

After tons of ideas, we helped Lyndee narrow it down (according to reality of making 100 items), to making plants.  She collected (or should we say mom had to do the coaxing of friends saving tin cans) tin cans, painted them, planted, watered, advertized, and sold all of her plants.  I just wish I could have been there the day of the project so that I could see her sell.  Lyndee worked really hard and spent many hours working on her project.  She planted Watermelon, Cantalope, Merigolds, and Carnations.  She had to keep them watered and then label all of her plants.  It was a fun project for Lyndee since she is such a nature girl!

Her 2 posters that she got an Excellent (which was the highest score on).  I have to say she is very creative in her marketing!  Since you can't read the smaller print on the posters, Lyndee is going to type in what it said.
The first one is curtains.....
"Introducing
Lyndee's Plants and Flowers
(left side) Lyndee Young has beautiful to be sprouting Flowers
(right side) She also has 3 different kinds of food
(middle) Just 3 T-Bucks

The green poster was a picture of a ship on the right with someone looking out and the ocean in the middle bottom, then on the right is land with a garden and another man talking to the guy on the ship.
The conversation read,
Ship:  "Hello"
Land:  "Hello"
Ship:  "I see you have a garden!  Where did you get your plants and flowers?"
Land:  "Lyndee's Plants and Flowers"
Ship:  "How much are they?"
Land:  "3 T-Bucks"
Ship:  "What a great deal!"
Land:  "That's what I thought"
Ship:  "I'll have to get me some on June 4th"

On the bottom of the ocean it read, "Stop in and see Lyndee Young."

Lyndee came up with the ideas all by herself....much more creative than her mom!!!

Above is her plants about a week before she sold them.

This is her set-up right before May Market began.

Lynar gave her the idea to have people sign her poster board "Happy Customer List"....an idea that Lynar used when he sold Living Scriptures!

Lyndee sold out of all of her plants!  She is pointing to her "Tucker Bucks" that she earned from the project.

That is a great idea! Reminds me of stuff we used to do in my advertising classes in college.
